Randall Crane studies the development challenges of cities, such as rushed urbanization,
urban design/behavior linkages, urban environmental problems, public finances, housing
and transportation markets, and the measure, meaning and governance of sprawl.
His international experience includes work in China, Colombia, Guyana, Indonesia, Kenya,
Thailand, and Yemen, and a Fulbright research fellowship at the Colegio de México in
Mexico City. He is the coauthor of "Travel by Design: The Influence of Urban Form on
Travel" (Oxford), coeditor of the forthcoming "Oxford Handbook of Urban Planning," and
is planning a book on Chinese urbanization. His PhD is from MIT.
