Zhong-Ren Peng

Dr. Peng is Professor of Urban Planning and founding Director of the Center for Advanced Spatial Information Research at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA. His major research interests are in the areas of urban transportation planning, public transportation planning, geographic information systems (GIS) and its applications in transportation (GIS-T), Internet GIS, transportation economics and policy. He is the principle author of the book "Internet GIS: Distributed geographic information services for the Internet and wireless networks" (Co-author Ming Hsiang Tsou) which was published in March 2003 by Wiley & Sons, and has published many peer-reviewed articles in academic journals.

Prof. Peng was awarded the “Excellence in Research Award” by the UWM Foundation and the UWM Graduate School in October 2002. He serves on the Spatial Data and Information Science Committee at the Transportation Research Board, The National Academy of Sciences. He is serving on the Board of Directors of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), the International Association of China Planning (IACP), Society of Chinese American Professors and Scientists (SoCAPS), and the North America Chinese Overseas Transportation Association (NACOTA). He was also a member of the Modeling Advisory Team to develop a data content standard for the Road Transportation Theme of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, as part of the President's Management Agenda E-Government Initiative - Geospatial One-Stop. Professor Peng is an editorial board member of the Journal of American Planning Association. He was a visiting professor at MIT during 2003-2004.
