2010 Karen R. Polenske Best Student Paper Competition announcement

Dear IACP Members and Friends:

On behalf of the IACP Board of Directors, we send you this email to announce the Karen R. Polenske Best Student Paper competition. This award, established in honor of MIT Professor Karen R. Polenske, a prominent regional economist and a leading scholar of China's sustainable development, will be awarded annually to a student member of IACP who presents excellent research at an IACP-sponsored academic conference. 

To be eligible for this year’s award, the student must be either the single author or the lead author of a paper that: 1) has already been accepted for presentation at the Fourth Annual IACP conference in Shanghai, June 19-21, 2010; and that 2) the student must present the paper at the conference. To be eligible, one should also be a current student member who has paid the 2010 IACP membership fee before January 31, 2010.

To be considered for the award, one must submit a full paper to the IACP Board of Directors <iacp-bod@lists.dcp.ufl.edu> via Email by May 15, 2010. All submitted papers will be evaluated by a review committee appointed by the IACP Board of Directors. Result of this competition will be announced at the conference in Shanghai. One or two students will be given the award. A total of US $1000 will be given to the award recipient(s) to defray portions of conference travel expenses. In case two students are selected as co-winners, they will share the $1000.  The winner(s) of this competition will present the paper at the conference in Shanghai, June 19-21, 2010.

The Karen R. Polenske Best Student Paper Award has been made possible by generous donations given by several distinguished individuals who are mostly Professor Polenske's former students.
