Karen R. Polenske Best Student Paper Competition for the
IACP- Renmin University (Beijing) conference in June, 2011
The International Association for China Planning (IACP) is pleased to announce the 2011 Karen Polenske Best Student Paper competition for the 5th IACP conference which will take place at Renmin University in Beijing June 17 – 19, 2011.
This award, established in honor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Karen Polenske—a prominent regional economist and a leading scholar of China's sustainable development—is awarded annually to student IACP members who present excellent research at major international planning conferences. Currently the IACP presents one Polenske award at their annual conference in China and one Polenske award at their annual membership meeting in the United States during the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) conference*.
To be eligible for this summer’s award, authors must
- be an IACP student member who paid dues by January 15, 2011; and
- Either the sole author or the lead author of a paper that has been accepted for presentation at the IACP-Renmin conference.
To be considered for the award, students must submit a full paper to the paper submission system by April 30, 2011. Submitted papers will be evaluated by a review committee appointed by the IACP Board of Directors. The result of this competition will be announced at the conference in Beijing. The winner of this competition will present the paper at the conference and receive free conference registration, free lodging, plus U.S. $ 1,000 to defray portions of her/his expenses for conference travel. In the case of two winners, the two winners will share the $1000 prize.
The Karen Polenske Best Student Paper Award has been made possible by generous donations given by several distinguished individuals who are mostly Professor Polenske's former students.

* The U.S. Polenske award competition will take place during fall, 2011 for papers which will be presented at the ACSP conference in Salt Lake City October 6 – 8, 2011. The call for papers for the ACSP Polenske award will be available on the IACP website in summer, 2011.
