IACP Polenske Award
The IACP has established a student traveling fellowship award in honor of M.I.T. Urban Studies and Planning professor Karen R. Polenske. Due to the generosity of one major and a number of additional donors the Polenske fellowship now has a sufficient endowment to make two awards each year to permit students to travel to major international conferences to present their work related to China planning.
At the fall, 2009 annual meeting the IACP awarded the first Polenske student travel fellowship to Christine Boyle, a PhD candidate at the University of North Carolina who was the lead author of a paper on water-related issues and funding in rural North China. Boyle and her colleagues collected data on the distribution of funding to water projects and the outcome of the funding. Christine received $ 1,000 to support her travel to ACSP.
