Vacancy in Assistant Professor in Environmental Planning, HKU (Application Deadline - 31 Jan 2010)
Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Professor in Environmental Planning
in the Department of Urban Planning and Design, from as soon as possible, on a three-year
fixed-term basis, with the p`ssibility of renewal. Application deadline 31 January 2010

In line with the Department's strategic vision of contributing to sustainable development
in Hong Kong and China, applicants should possess a strong teaching and research track
record with the expectation that the successful candidate will be able to secure research
funding related to environmental planning and sustainable development issues in Asia,
especially in Hong Kong or China. Applicants who have recently completed a Ph.D. degree
in environmental planning and can demonstrate outstanding potential in the related
research areas will also be considered. Professional membership, or eligibility for
membership, in urban planning institutes is also desirable.
The appointee will be expected to contribute effectively to programme administration,
demonstrate an ability to develop and teach courses including, but not limited to,
planning sustainable cities and regions, environmental impact assessment, environmental
and spatial planning and other courses in the professional Master of Science in Urban
Planning programme, and contribute to teaching in the urban planning workshops and urban
design studios.
The Department of Urban Planning and Design offers a range of postgraduate programmes
including urban planning, transport policy and planning, urban design, and housing

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be
offered. The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University
contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as
well as leave, and medical/dental benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as
applicable.

different stages of career development. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed
17% of gross income.
