The IACP Logo Design Competition Result
In January 2006, the IACP Board of Directors (BOD) decided to
designate an official logo for our newly established association through a
design competition. A five-person committee, headed by Prof. Qing Shen, was
formed to organize the logo competition. All IACP members and friends were
invited to participate in this competition. Six people submitted a total of 10
sets of logo designs, each symbolizing “China”, “International”, and/or
“Planning” in some artistic and imaginative way. The committee members voted
independently to choose their preferred logos. The design submitted by Jeff
Hsiao, a graduate student at Texas A&M University, received the most votes and
hence the first prize. This logo was subsequently revised by Jeff Hsiao and
Zhan Guo based on the committee’s recommendations. The revised design was
accepted by the IACP BOD in June 2006 as the official logo.
The IACP logo has two parts: graphic and text. The graphic part
includes three English letters representing the three key characteristics of
this organization: International, China, and Planning. The three letters, when
combined, form the Chinese word “center”, which is also the abbreviation of
“China”. The background is the traditional Chinese red color. The text part
spells out the organization name in both English and Chinese in black color
with a white background, which echoes the black and white letters in the
graphic part.
The competition was quite close. Here is the final result:
